FutureDocs Abroad

Hue, Vietnam: July 13th - July 28th, 2024

Welcome to your student portal for the FutureDocs Abroad 2024 program in Hue, Vietnam!

We are delighted to welcome you to FutureDocs Abroad, an extraordinary opportunity to experience medicine in its purest form. You will meet patients, shadow doctors, work in the anatomy lab, observe surgery, and immerse yourself in the tapestry of traditions, values, and customs of Vietnamese culture that have evolved over thousands of years.

Our adventure will take place in the beautiful, bustling city of Hué, Vietnam. Hué, located in central Vietnam, is a city steeped in history and culture. It’s often described as a living museum due to its rich heritage and well-preserved remnants of its imperial past. Hué is renowned as the former imperial capital of Vietnam. It served as the political, cultural, and religious center of the country during the Nguyen Dynasty, which ruled from the early 19th century until the mid-20th century. You are sure to find many things to love about this vibrant and fast-paced city during your two weeks there.

Clinical rotations take place on campus at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Hue UMP), which was founded in 1957 following the start of the Vietnam War. Hue UMP has played a critical role in advancing the public welfare within Hue and its surrounding area ever since. Nearly 30,000 medical professionals (doctors, pharmacists, nurses, etc.) that work in Vietnam have graduated from the university in its 65 year lifespan. In addition, the university has elevated standard care practices by being the first and only university in Vietnam to meet the standards of international higher education institutions.

Before we take off on our journey together, you will need to become fully oriented with the contents of this student portal. The most important step is to click the ‘Onboarding‘ tab and complete all of the required items within that section as soon as possible. Any information we request is necessary and time sensitive. The second step is to review the ‘Handbook‘ tab. The handbook houses detailed information relevant to the program and students are encouraged to review the handbook multiple times in the leadup to the program as we will update it regularly. The final step is to take a look at the ‘General Resources‘ tab for additional information on the program.
